Looking for a Digital Recruiter – What to Look Out For?

  • 25th September 2014

The Digital Industry in the UK is innovative, competitive, fast-paced and most definitely fast-growing. It goes without saying that an increased demand for experienced Digital professionals is being met by an ever increasing number of recruitment agencies eager to provide their services.

Both the big players and boutique recruitment agencies are expanding their services to service the digital industry.

If you are urgently in need of Digital professionals, then that’s great news as there will be reams of agencies lined up to help you – but as we have seen across other industries, the high demand for professionals and the consequent influx of recruitment agencies also means finding the right recruitment partner can be a minefield.

So here’s what to look out for when trying to find the industry’s best!
How well do they know the industry?

Are they knowledgeable about the roles you would like them to recruit for?

How often have they recruited for similar roles?

How often have they successfully placed candidates in similar roles?

Have they gained a good understanding of your specific requirements?

Are they willing to invest time in getting to know your company?

Do you feel comfortable that the recruiter will represent your company as you would like?

Will they be able to select candidates that don’t just fit the “technical” or “qualification” requirements, but who also fit your team and company culture?

What’s the lead time for providing CVs?

What support will they provide you and the candidate throughout and post process?

Are they able to provide you with valuable advice about skill availability, salary benchmarking and the most effective recruitment methods and processes?

Are they nice to deal with?

Last of all, fees need to be considered.

Many companies use this last point as their main criteria when choosing a recruitment partner. Finding an experienced, knowledgeable recruiter who is able to deliver the right people, on time and is easy to deal with outweighs their weight in gold. Simply put, as with all things, cheap is not always the best.

The ideal is to find a balance between your budget and the quality of service you desire. Now you have found a recruiter with the right knowledge, experience and tools, who will provide you with the level of service you desire at the right price, how do you keep them? Recruiters love exclusivity, even if it’s just for a few days – this shows you trust and value them.
