DBA/Technical Support Analyst Darlington/UK Wide Permanent – £35-40k

A leading company supplying software and products into the rail industry is looking for an experienced DBA to join their team to help support many exciting initiatives. The company’s products are used across the UK by 100’s of thousands of people each day and they are a recognised leader in their field.

The post is ideally based out of Darlington however some flexibility is possible for the right candidate and will focus on supporting both internal and external customers with any of their database needs. It’s an exciting time for the company, with a large program of work around developing the next version of their product, on top of their existing support commitments.

The successful candidate will:

  • Administrate Oracle databases- including capacity monitoring, maintenance and technical support
  • Support internal and external teams with technical advice as needed, both remote and in person
  • Assist with the design, testing and implementation of disaster recovery routines and procedures
  • Plan and undertake database maintenance and support activities as agreed with the customer or internal organizations
  • Assist with installation and platform testing

We’re looking for:

  • DBA experience working on Oracle Database Administration, tuning, upgrades etc.
  • Windows Server and Desktop hardware, operating system installation and configuration,
  • Good analytical skills and an ability to define the precise nature of customer problems
  • Experience of working in a disciplined development and/or support environment
  • Personal commitment to continuous improvement and self-development
  • Hands on experience with some or all of the following:
    • Oracle OCP
    • MySQL
    • Microsoft MCSE
    • VMWare or other virtualization technologies
    • Citrix
    • IBM mainframe connectivity
    • Telecommunications and networking
    • Linux
  • Ability to provide mentoring and advice to less experienced staff
  • Knowledge of the UK Rail Industry would be an advantage, but training and support can be provided.
