A Buyer, from Junior right through to Lead and Principal, is important to commercial success.

Whether a company operates in the Medical, Manufacturing, Defence, Construction or Education market – it is imperative that the business finds the right supplier for the goods and services it uses.

Working as a Buyer has become increasingly more challenging. For many businesses, purchasing has become less transactional and more strategic, and the Buyer now plays a critical role in ensuring profits are maintained and enhanced.

The role of a Buyer isn’t just making the necessary purchases, but also requires careful research and negotiation to ensure that projects are finished on time, under budget and to the standard required.

Organisations are now looking for Buyers who are career focussed and possess a professional accreditation, such as CIPS, or candidates who are currently studying towards CIPS as an indication of their commitment to the Procurement industry. These candidates need to have strong negotiation skills, be capable of protecting the company against risk by understanding terms and conditions and be effective supplier relationship managers.
